Look up! Look around! Cumulonimbus, cirrus, nimbostratus, cotton candy marshmallow. A riot of color, canvas for the divine. But air. Nothing but atmosphere. Blank space. Yawning portal for prophet’s chariot, for the men of Galilee’s upturned eyes. 

 

Pangea crashing, sharp teeth rising, old bones weathered down. Whipping winds and sun-bleached stone. Moriah and Sinai. Golgotha and Tabor. 

Sprinkling drops on dusty ground, swirling eddies, crashing tide, thunderous crack of the first summer storm. Rising floodwaters, a parted sea, waves calmed by Word. A font, an infant’s cry.

Tree bark, cherry blossoms, weeds and wheat and chaff. Ground grains with water (hold the yeast). Ancient words on modern altars. From life to death to Presence. 

 

Soft glow of dawn. Brightness of noon. Golden evening. Fiery leave-taking. An appointed time for everything. Wax and wane. Abraham’s promise, Guadalupe’s cloak. 

 

Thrumming wings, dappled scales beneath the ripples. Eagles soar and dove descends. Fish come quicker than nets take in. Trumpeting Serengeti sounds, majestic antlers, sinuous tiger-lines, the quick dark of a stumbled-upon wild thing. Nose smudges on zoo glass. Reports in elementary scrawl. Did you wonder once? Do you wonder still?

 

Good, good, good, good, good, very good! So He speaks.
