Meaghan
Meaghan is a Pastoral Team Member of the Eden Invitation Community.
She likes like building/fixing and restoring things in all sorts of materials--plaster, wood, metal whatever. She's also interested in history, with her current fascination being with prehistory that studies genetics and migration. She enjoys teams sports and any water activities. Meaghan's also learning Spanish and enjoys spending time chatting with people.
This piece is called "Go into the marketplace and stay with Me" (Found Item Sculpture, photography, and written word)
"I began this art work because it was a way for me to deal with my frustration about electronics waste, and how software updates render perfectly good hardware useless. So I began to think of making something out of obsolete or discarded computers that end up in the trash. At first the idea was trying to find Christ somewhere in this.
Soon I had the image of Christ’s heart. I thought the project would represent that Christ can be found even in the chaos of our world, even in digitally dominated culture, even in the pain and darkness of our minds and hearts. But as I grinded and soldered I realized Christ is especially in those places. Where else would he be than the places where he is needed the most? To think that Christ is only in places where truth, beauty and goodness reign is a truly depressing thought! Christ is in the Marketplace. Of course He is.
And it’s not some afterthought on His part. Not only does he dwell there, bringing his saving light and grace, He invites me to go into the marketplace too, and to stay with Him. I can find Him especially in the chaos. He is there in my own and He is there in my brothers and sisters who navigate whatever chaos our modern digital world throws at them."
